Santa Casa da Misericordia Macau 仁慈堂大樓
Holy House of Mercy
It was built in 1569 on the initiative of the first bishop of Macau. This institution was modeled on one of the most famous and ancient charitable organizations in Portugal, and was intended to establish Macau’s first Western-style medical clinic and a number of other social institutions that operate in Macau to this day. The building is mostly neoclassical in style, but the influence of the Mannerist school can also be traced in its architectural appearance.
