Contemporary Performance and Street Art Festival on January 12th
Chinese New Year on February 14th (different date every year)
This holiday is the most significant event for most of the city’s residents, who hope to start the new year with a clean slate. People do thorough cleaning in their homes, decorate them with flowers (you will find huge flower markets all over the city) and arrange magnificent fireworks to drive away evil spirits. Children are given money on this occasion, and the whole family gathers around the table. For ten days, various events take place on the streets: dragon and lion dances, visits to temples, musical and dance performances in the main squares throughout the city, everyone greets each other with the words “Kung Hai fat choi”, which means wishing good luck.
