Coloane village Macau
In the past, this place was a small village through which trade was conducted with neighboring Chinese islands, and today it is a quiet, coastal rural place.
There are two main attractions here — the chapel of St. Francis and the Taoist temple in honor of the patron god of sailors, Tian Hou.
Life in the village is centered around two small squares.
One can be found by a curious bronze fountain in the shape of a Cupid figure, and on the second stands a small chapel, and its sidewalk is lined with characteristic mosaic tiles.
Typical home-style restaurants with outdoor tables are nestled under the local shady neoclassical arches. The menu offers a wide selection of Portuguese and Chinese dishes. Stroll through the narrow village streets and experience the atmosphere of traditional Macau. There are many things here that remind you of the time of the pirates (you only have to look at St. Francis Square to see this), only here you can see a lot of old gray stone houses, temples and craft workshops (take a look at the workshops where wooden utensils are still made by hand).
The street along the shore, Av. Cinco de Outubro, which leads to the Tian Hou Temple, is an attractive place associated with many historical events. Take a look at the peaceful, leisurely life of these places, at the houses right by the shore, and relax at the marina where the boats connecting Coloane with the mainland depart.
There is also a modern port on Coloana, not far from KaHo, a village with a typical rural landscape, where the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows is located.
How to get there?
Buses: 15, 21A, 25, 26, 26A, 50, N3
The easiest way is not to worry and take a taxi.
I got to the village of Koloane in two non-standard ways:
1. Through the hiking route from Khaksa beach, skirting the mountain, I got to the village. More info HERE
2. By boat from the Barra square pier to the Koloane pier.

November 4, 2024. I partially repeated this route on March 22, 2025.
My itinerary was as follows: Barra Pier – 15 minutes by boat – Coloane Pier. 2 hours in the village and back by boat.
The Barra Pier 妈阁码头 is located opposite the A-Ma Temple and the Maritime Museum.

Tickets can be purchased on the spot (in the boat), in the lobby of the MGM or MGM Cotai Hotel.

The boat sails for 20-27 minutes.

Along the way, you will see skyscrapers in Zhuhai, and the Taipa district (Broadway, Galaxy, Studio City, Lotus Bridge and 2 yacht clubs)

And immediately you get to the village, go to the right along the shore. There are several restaurants there.
I ate chicken soup in one of them.

Further along the way is a large square with a red cupid Ramalho Eanes Garden 恩尼斯花園
There I stood in line for egg tartlets.

There are many beautiful houses, mansions and old buildings.

There is a lot of color in this place! And graffiti and Chinese and Portuguese elements and rich Chinese.
I reached the main attraction, Largo Eduardo Marques Square.
There is a monument there, in honor of the victory over the pirates in 1910.

There are nice restaurants on the square.
Passing by Coloane Library 路環圖書館 (where there is a toilet and drinking water), I reached the temple Tam Kung 譚公廟

The navigator also walked me through the cemetery. I spent 15 minutes jumping past the graves.
(I searched in vain for a large temple, but found it only on March 22, 2025. Ah Ma Temple is also in the village of Koloan, but further away, on the mountain)
Return from the Tam Kung Temple to the pier should be a parallel street, not along the embankment.
You will see another mini square with souvenir shops.
I also recommend going to the mini temple. Tin Hau Temple Coloane 路環天后古廟.

That’s it, I reached the Coloane pier and sailed back to the Barra pier.
