There is a chapel dedicated to St. Francis Xavier in the center of Coloane village.
The chapel was built in 1928 on the place where the relics of the saint rested. The facade of its cream and white colors is made in the Baroque style.
The relics have since been moved to another location, but this modest chapel still attracts pilgrims, especially from Japan.
Its facade overlooks a European-style square lined with mosaics. Ancient banyan trees and arches grow on each side, sheltering cafes from all sides. Not far from the square is a street with traditional outdoor shops and the best antique shops in Macau.
