Camoes Garden in Macau 白鴿巢公園
Named after the Portuguese poet Luis de Camoens, the park is the largest in Macau.
Its history is as follows: when the British troops left the city in 1835, a rich Portuguese merchant bought this place. Having built a house in the park, he began to arrange the territory and along the way bred pigeons, which, apparently, knowing about this passion of his, flocked here from everywhere. Their descendants live in the park to this day, eating at the expense of tourists and locals.

Camoens Garden and Grotto in Macau In this romantic garden with narrow paths winding between ancient “pagoda trees”, you will discover how very early in the morning the locals walk their birds in beautiful cages and do morning exercises.
The Camoens Grotto is located in a garden dedicated to the famous Portuguese poet who lived in Macau in 1557.
The bust of the poet is placed in an opening between stone slabs, and his poems are carved into the rock next to it.
It is believed that he wrote his famous book of poetry, The Lusiades, here.

The shortest and most pleasant way to the Camoens Garden is from the ruins of St. Peter’s Cathedral. Pavla walks along the old Rua de Santo Antonio street, which is home to antique shops, furniture from various historical periods, textiles in the classical style and a variety of ceramic items.
This is a very pleasant place for a short walk in Macau!
