Cotai island (Zona do Aterro de Cotai) It occupies the territory between the islands of Taipa and Coloane.
Initially, they were connected by a small isthmus built back in the 19th century, but as a result of the large-scale drainage of the sea in the 1990s, the islands actually merged with each other. Since 2003, the lands that arose between them began to be built up by casinos and hotels. The name Kotai was formed from the first syllables of the words Koloan and Taipa. The area of this place is 5.5 square kilometers.
